Racism is one of the world’s major issues today. Many people are not aware of how much racism still exists in our schools, at work and everywhere else where social lives are occurring. It is obvious that racism is bad as it was many decades ago but it sure has not gone away. Racism very much exists and it is about time that people need to start thinking about the instigations and solutions to this matter. Many people believe that it depends on if a person was brought into the world as a racist or not but that is not the case at all. In fact, an individual cannot be born a racist but only learn to become one as they grow from child to adulthood.
Racism is the belief that all members of each race posses’ characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or a nation.
Ignorance plays a vital role in racism. Following the recent incidents that happened on the 29th August 2016 learners from Pretoria High School for girls in Tshwane protested against racism in their school, very brave learners. It is reported that some teachers within the school had posed some insults to the black learners because of how they look. The incident made them feel uncomfortable and couldn’t stand for the insulations anymore; it resulted in a protest outside the school premises. The matter went viral on social media. MEC of Education in Gauteng Lesufi Panyaza visited the school. An agreement was reached that some of the clause on the school policy/code of conduct must be reviewed while the investigations are being conducted.
After 22 years in democracy such incidents still happen? Why are we still fighting racism fights< Why are girls fighting racism instead of being in classrooms?
The law protects everyone from unfair treatment on the basis of their race, including colour, descent, national etc and it also covers different areas of everyday Life
