The Free State Electoral Independent Commission says it is ready for the upcoming elections.
The commission held a media briefing last Thursday, in order to brief the media. The event took place at the President Hotel in Bloemfontein. Free State Provincial head, Jabulani Tshabalala told journalist that they are ready to deliver free and fair elections for Local government, 2016
He continued to say, the stakes are high for August 3rd elections. He said in order for elections to be successful, they have to be credible, transparent and their staff needs to be properly trained.
For the coming elections, there are 27 political parties registered, and will be taking part in the elections. The commission said all parties and independent candidates must be able to recruit voters without fear. There are 83 independent candidates registered throughout Free State province.
The IEC has trained, SAPS personnel, data captures, party agents, presiding officers & their deputies, voters roll officers and area managers for 18 municipalities and the metro(Mangaung).
The commission also confirmed the logistics are in place, and it has started receiving ballot papers for elections.
