Social Development

One would ask themselves what social development is in our society today, what do we actually mean by social development?

According to Reference.com (2016), Social development is the act of prioritizing needs of human in the growth of progression of society, and also governs the norms and conversion that controls human interaction. Its focus is on improving the lives of the regular citizens, (especially the poor society) a better place for everyone. Furthermore, it’s about putting people at the centre for development, this means the commitment that development processes needs to benefit people, particularly but not only the poor, but also a recognition that people there way they interact in groups and society, and the norms that facilitate that interaction, shape development processes.

Social Development within our communities has extended its programs to the civil society organisation and municipalities to mention few; Social welfare which we have our HIV&AIDS, Old Ages, Substance Abuse, Victim Empowerment and Early Childhood Development.

Including, Probation Services which entrenches juveniles, as well as Community Development and Research which we have household profiling, youth development and women development.

I will be talking more about Victim Empowerment, with particular focus on issues that are current not only our community but the country at large such as:

Domestic violence which has taken a strain into our communities lately and caused by too many things, for example substance abuse to mention few. Most women/men are been taken advantage of because of their vulnerability or being dependent on someone financially.

The research that I have made within the community are from SAPS as I once worked for a civil society organisation that deals with Victim Empowerment. Most of the cases that are being reported at SAPS are led by Substance abuse which has been trending.

There was once a woman that I have interviewed early last year and, her husband was working outside the community they were residing on. Every time when the husband was home there will be lots of fights because her husband would always be accusing her of cheating but only when he was drunk and he would beat her. She referred the case to our offices as it was the first stop for victims of crimes. The worse part about our people in our communities is that they tend to take information into consideration until something has happened to them. Like the saying “You only understand until it happens to you”.

Here is the information that all of you readers should know, there is no one who should be a victim of crime while we have organisations that can assist you and government department that can help. I am pleading to everyone to break the silence.

  1. I couldn’t agree more with you, the fact that you have a massive experience regarding the Non Profit organization stamp the authority. Rehabilitation needs spatial planning where all concerned entities come together. But knowing the state of our community more especially funds receiving organizations, it’s hard to believe that we will conquer unless we do more actions than uttering words

  2. Everything start small so I believe whatever everyone or every group is trying to push it will eventually happen as planned or even bigger than we would have imagined. Thabang keep doing what you’re doing it will pay off, FoGs you guys stopped dreaming about what you wanted or needed to do, you’re now living it. Salut

  3. Thank you very much for your comment Mr Maduna, working together will definitely make a huge difference in changing one Life within the community through community programs. I edge everyone to take part in building our community to be the best, i might have massive experience but there is someone out there who can do better that i can. This is really a good platform to voice out community challenges in order to see where we can help out.
And i also agree that if all the stakeholders come together and work as one we might achieve our goal.
